Over centuries, body measures have been taken manually by a tailors. Since the 1990s 3D body scanners have been supporting the tailors and since the 2010s mobile scanning apps have arrived using AI to render a virtual 3D model out of a small video taken of the target person.

AI-based body measure capturing is a technology that uses artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to measure the body dimensions of a person. It involves capturing various body measurements accurately and quickly, without the need for a physical tape measure or manual input.

The technology involves using sensors, cameras, or other imaging tools to capture an image or 3D model of the person's body. The AI algorithms then analyze this data to determine accurate body measurements, such as height, waist circumference, hip circumference, and inseam length.

AI-based body measure capturing has several benefits, including:

  • Accuracy - The technology can capture precise body measurements with a high degree of accuracy, reducing errors in sizing and fit.
  • Speed - The process of capturing body measurements using AI is much faster than traditional manual methods, which can save time and increase efficiency.
  • Convenience - AI-based body measure capturing can be done remotely, eliminating the need for in-person measurements and reducing contact during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Personalization - Accurate body measurements can be used to create personalized clothing recommendations and improve the overall customer experience.
  • Sustainability - By reducing the need for multiple physical samples, AI-based body measure capturing can help reduce waste and improve sustainability in the fashion industry.

Integration into ZUGSEIL Tools

Body measure capturing with 3rd party vendor

User experience

The user presses a button in the ZUGSEIL Shop or Measuring-In App and receives a 3D-barcode and instructions how to perform the body-measure capturing process. Either the user has to scan the 3D barcode with the camera app for a web app to be opened or use the 3rd party`s app to read the 3D barcode. From this moment the 3rd party mobile app or mobile browser takes over control. The user finishes the process on the mobile device and returns to the ZUGSEIL application, where the user either confirms the finishing of the body measure capturing process by pressing a button. Eventually this process is automated if the polling process in the background transferred the body measures automatically.

Technical flow

ZUGSEIL integrates with 3rd party vendor apps to find matching body measures. Integration works over a Session-ID generated by ZUGSEIL:

  • ZUGSEIL generates a session-ID, which is typically a UID (e.g. 957617eb-8acd-4b82-a151-2f5c3516c65d)
  • After the session-ID is generated, ZUGSEIL in the background uses an API offered by the 3rd party vendor to pass information. Typical information passed through this channel are gender, body height, desired user language and branding information (like logo and color-coding of the CI of the company the staff member to become measured-in)
  • Once the session-ID is confirmed, the ZUGSEIL app shows either the session-ID coded as 3D barcode or a website-link with the Session-ID as URL-parameter. This depends mainly on the 3rd party vendor working with a native app or with a web based tool.
  • From this moment ZUGSEIL polls over the 3rd party api for the set of body-measures detected by the 3rd party AI.
Data protection
It is essential that the 3rd party does not store any information of the scanned body, like photos on its side permanently as ZUGSEIL is committed to ensure most modern data protection legislation.
